Dogs and puppies have different nutritional requirements during the different phases of their life. Briefly, Puppies need more protein, vitamins and minerals to support them during their growing stage, while senior or more mature dogs need less protein and reduced oils and fats to help maintain lean bodies as they become older and less active. Our blends for puppies, junior dogs and senior dogs also have Chondoitin, MSM and Glucosamine to support bones and joints. Depending of the size of the breed, Puppies continue to grow as junior or adolescent dogs until about the age of 2 in bigger breeds. When your junior dogs stop growing, wean them over onto  an adult formula. Senior dogs are generally those aged 7 and over.

Ingredients have been carefully selected and others deliberately omitted from our recipes to ensure our blends are as gentle as possible on digestion as well as reducing the possibility of allergic reaction. We intentionally do not include any artificial preservatives and also do not enhance the colour of kibble with artificial colourings or lace the food with artificial flavours to encourage dogs to eat the food. We only use natural preservatives like Vitamin E (Tocopherol) and natural ingredients provide both depth of colour or the kibble and the scrumptious taste so dogs can safely enjoy the food without you having to worry about of those nasties. None of our blends contain bulky fillers either. All our blends have been formulated by top veterinary nutritionists and are fully balanced and complete 

Like humans, our pets can also become sensitive to toxins and pollutants in the air or to certain foodstuffs or artificial additives found in other brands of food. This can be a distressing time for both pet and pet guardian as you have their well-being in mind and only want to see them happy and healthy. If your pet is in discomfort or pain, seek veterinary advice. Your veterinarian can run some allergy tests to find out what your dog may be allergic to – if is is a certain type of protein in their current food ( like beef, for instance) or if the allergic reaction is in response to external factors like pollen or certain grasses, for example.  An elimination diet may also be helpful, where you feed only one particular foodstuff at a time, adding another only when you are sure there is no allergic reaction to the first, and gradually introduce new foodstuff or ingredients. This can be tricky and time consuming. The first important step would be examine what is in the food you are currently feeding. Some questions to ask are: 

Does the food contain artificial colourings, flavors or preservatives? The label may not tell you all you need to know but a clue is to look for E numbers as these refer to the artificial colouring. 

Does the current food contain bulky fillers? Again the label should but may not tell you it’s a filler – check if it contains wheat. Many dogs and cats have wheat and gluten intolerances just like humans.

Is the first item on the ingredient list meat or fish? (See our article on how to read pet food labels). Avoid brands where the first item is not meat (ie: Chicken, Pork, Salmon . . ) and definitely avoid brand that use any form of ‘derivative’. This means the protein source if not defined and so can vary from batch to batch. Bright Eyes- Bushy Tails formulae are specific and defined using top quality meat and / or fish (our grain free gourmet range is made using at least 30% in fresh meat).

When changing your dogs’ food please ensure the transition is slow to ensure a gentle transition.

Dogs and puppies are creatures of habit, and to some extent, they become accustomed to their food and so some may be a little adverse to change in diet. Some dogs and puppies have very sensitive digestion, so in these cases and in general when changing foods, it is recommended that the new food be introduced slowly – mixing it in ever increasing quantities while reducing the quantity of the old food, over a period of several days.  Even though our Bright Eyes – Bushy Tails formulas are gentle and vet approved, this ensures the change is gradual and easier on the stomach and less likely to lead to stomach upsets). Clinical trials have shown that the use of ozone has been a game changer in successfully helping diabetics with severe ulcers or gangrene retain toes / feet and or legs were amputation had been suggested.  For best results. lavage wound with ozonated water then proceed with limb bagging followed by topical application of Ozonia Vet Cream / Ozonia 15 Gel
